MBALA MUNICIPAL COUNCIL LAUNCHES CHILDREN’S CORNER AT TVMI LIBRARY

Mbala Municipal Council has today launched the Children’s Corner in an event held at TVMI Library.

The Children’s Corner is a newly introduced section of the library, furnished and stocked to cater to the reading, research, and learning needs of children between the ages of 1 to 15 years old.

Out of its mandate to provide access to information, knowledge, and educational resources, the Local Authority has been actively engaging well-wishers to revamp the library and finally managed to secure a donation of K29,459.00, 3000 books and Staff Training from Book Aid International in partnership with the Zambia Library Service, which has enabled the establishment of the Children’s Corner.

Speaking during the launch, Town Clerk for Mbala Municipal Council Mrs. Laura Yumba Munkanta expressed excitement at the new addition to the facility, as it will contribute to the establishment of a solid literacy foundation for children at their critical learning age.

She further expressed gratitude to Book Aid International and the Zambia Library Service for funding the establishment of the Children’s Corner, the first of its kind in the District.

And Mbala District Education Board Secretary in his remarks urged parents and teachers to encourage learners to utilize the Children’s Corner in order to promote the culture of reading among children as it is crucial to education. He further encouraged learners to subscribe for membership so as to fully benefit from the services being provided at the facility.

The launch was characterized by a spelling competition between Grade 6 students from Chila Primary School and Mbala Primary School. Mbala Primary School walked away with the winning prize inclusive of hardcover books, pencils, and pens.

In attendance was Mbala Municipal Council Town Clerk, District Education Board Secretary, Constituency Development Fund Committee Chairperson, Local Authority Management, various Stakeholders, Teachers and Pupils from various schools.

The facility shall be accessible free of charge, but attracts a membership fee of K10 per month or K100 per year, for access to services such as borrowing books.
